Unless the program is written badly and has a memory leak the ram use should be immediate,
on demand. It begins when the processing begins and ends when the processing ends.
The requirements should not increase over time. If you have tried everything as
you said and considering you have a fast processor, ram was my guess, LOL XP is
a memory hog and so are intensive 3D applications, especially with a monitor such
as yours. 512 is pretty much needed just for normal activities. But hey, I've been
wrong many times... You may just need to run dxdiag and trim some background services.
The Black Viper website has some great information on how to improve performance.
You could also try a smaller monitor and see if performance improves or as a previous
poster mentioned. lower the resolution of the monitor or settings of the screensaver.
