Yes, actually I had turned off the service from the recovery console as part of my
troubleshooting, then promptly forgot I had done so. To turn it back on I right-clicked
My Computer -> Services and Apps -> Services and found the Norton AV autoprotect
and changed the service setting back to auto and restarted.
(Just doing it from the Norton console doesnt seem to work ??). If that isnt the
solution for you you may have to uninstall and reinstall (Symantec have a removal
tool for NAV2003 which is good to run after uninstalling - you have to go through
troubleshooting on their web site to find it).
Also make sure you dont have a virus which is knocking out Nortons - I came across
one called Optix... a few days ago which overwrote the MS Visual Basic 6 dll and
caused Norton autoprotect to not run (as well as a few other things like Messenger),
and gave similar symptoms to what you are describing.
