Hello, I'm glad, if glad is the right word, to see that other people are having the
same problem. It took about 3 days to figure out how to phrase this on google before
finding the right forums...vexing. So yes, my problem with the empty Device Manager\PlugnPlay
failure started after downloading all the recent Microsoft Updates and downloading
the Windows XP version of the Yamaha DS-XG sound card driver. After that it was downhill...i
turned on my computer the next morning and had no sound, no modem, or anything else
related to Plug n Play. I've tried all the solutions so far here, from checking Services,
to enabling System control priviliges in Regedit, to checking Computer Management,
disabling it in the BIOS, rebooting, re-enabling. I've even bought a live chicken
and a trapped soul in case i have to resort to Voodoo. personally I'd rather it was
Gates' throat that could be slit...but that's just the angry side of me talking,
that can't get online or play music... So yeah, I have the same problem...
It seems that this is some kind of PlugnPlay problem among SEVERAL, judging by the
amount of posts I've seen in this thread with the same problem but different preceeding
events. What the heck, windows, what the heck.
thanks,
chris
