My dad, who knows nothing about Computers, bought a dvd burner and installed it himself
yesterday. The computer was ok for a bit, but when he was attempting to reinstall
his printer (It wasn't functioning correctly) the computer crashed.
Upon restart, you get the following Message:
"We apologize for the inconvience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent
hardware or software change might have cause this.
If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically
shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration
to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the
Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem,
choose Start Windows Normally."
Then you are given the following options:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Windows Normally
The last 2 options will bring up the Windows XP startup screen, but then the computer
goes black
In safe mode you get a bunch of command strings that say something like this:
Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\ (name of driver.sys)
What should I do? At this point I don't care about saving what is on the computer,
I just want it to function!
Thanks for the help!
