Installing any part of Office 95 under XP also disables autorun/autoplay. But using
the Group Policy Editor solved the problem for me.
Unforuntately only applies to XP Professional, XP Home doesn't have the policy editor.
Start, Run, GPEDIT.MSC Computer Configuration, Administrative templates, System,
Turn off autoplay.
First disable CD autoplay completely in Windows XP Pro
1. Click Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC
2. Go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System.
3. Locate the entry for Turn Autoplay Off and enable it.
4. Close Group Policy editor
5. Open it up again.
6. Disable Turn Autoplay Off
7. Close Group Policy editor again
