On my system this happened when (after) I uninstalled WordPerfect Office 2000 (v9.x) and then installed WP Office 12 which did not install correctly - then un-installed and re installed WP Office 2000 and the "MS Access Database ODBC error 6:" message and all related failures appeared. Quick fix, If you can, or have available, copy keys from other XP Pro system.
