I sustained some nasty damage from some software drivers I was downloading. I was
looking for WDM drivers for my SBLive! card (as I was having that famous 0x80004005
directplay/voice issue), and installed the package (it wasn't from Creative.com).
The system (XPSp1)crashed at the end of the install, and lo and behold on restart
I'd lost my plug and play enumerator, my CD rom drives, my Logitech QuickCam, and
my Sound card. The system restart also showed (thanks to Otrack SystemSuite) that
most of the drivers for these devices had been corrupted. I also wound up with about
10 different adware and spyware apps on my PC, a couple of virii, and some backdoor
worms. Wonderful. And on top of that, I've dug through my piles of dusty CD's and
can't find my '98 CD. If someone could send me swenum.inf, I'd really appreciate
it. My swenum.sys seems to be intact, but if you want to send that as well, I won't
complain. If I can remember where I downloaded that driver pack, I'll let everyone
know so you don't suffer my fate.
