I feel a bit silly now... It turns out that even when the Dial-up dialogue box shows
16 dots, the computer is still remembering and sending my (shorter) password correctly!
I'm not sure whether in the beginning it was sending the wrong password or not, but
now it's all working. I was just fooled by that long row of dots!
Pfew. Couldn't they just add a note explaining this?
