If you have tried everything already mentioned and still cannot get your icons to
have transparent you may want to try this.
Change following reg keys to a value of 0
User Key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
Value Name: ForceActiveDesktopOn
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = default, 1 = enabled)
This is what did it for me. Something, I don’t know what was changing this value
to 1 on my system. Once I set this to 0 I had my drop shadows back.
