Well -- it's now two months since I last wrote.
I'm still having the exact same problem. I've found another pecularity, though:
I have three accounts on my XP Home -- mine, the "Guest" account, and the administrator.
If I shut down the computer and log into my account first, I cannot open any Office
programs. However if I first log into the Administrator account and go through all
of the "Windows Installer is preparing to install... (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook,
etc.)," then I can access Office software from the other accounts. In other words
-- first logging in as the Administrator is imperative to using this software.
But this doesn't solve the original problem.
This is one of the most aggravating problems I've ever dealt with on ANY OS -- mostly
because Microsoft hasn't felt this is worth their time and effort to fix, and the
problem seemingly only affects few people.
If anyone has suggestions (or a solution!), please take a few minutes to let us know.
Thanks!!!
