Question about 'Why don't desktop icons remember the position I carefully left them in?'

How can I make Windows XP remember the exact position I carefully place each of my many desktop icons? I have disabled all right-click arrange options yet Windows still insists on rearranging them at random intervals whenever it feels like it. Very frustrating... Could someone please help out?
