I am trying this. Maybe helpful :
This is aimed to be helpful to those people who have Windows XP Home and want to
work on Active Server Pages (ASP). Unfortunately Win XP Home does not have the option
of installing IIS or PWS. Unlike Win ME where Microsoft mentioned that PWS can installed
on a testing basis(kb:266456), they have not left any such door ajar for XP Home.
So to use IIS you have to upgrade to XP Pro. However, if you just want to use ASP
but do not mind what server you are using, read on!
I bought an IBM ThinkPad G40 with XP Home and many of projects involve database-driven
ASP sites. After a lot of searching on the internet, I came across a Tek-Tips thread(http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?SQID=175058&SPID=333&page=1)
where one suggestion was to use ChiliSoft from SUN. I decided to take that route.
I went to the Chilisoft(http://www.chilisoft.com) website and found that they are
offering a trial version of the Sun ONE Active Server Pages 4.0.1(http://wwws.sun.com/software/download/products/3f4e6fe6.html)
BUT the following was also mentioned on the site: "When used with the Sun ONE Web
Server, Sun ONE Active Server Pages can be installed free-of-charge for production
use (no license key is required)." So I decided to install Sun ONE Web Server(http://wwws.sun.com/software/products/web_srvr/home_web_srvr.html)
also. This server also will support PHP by adding some modules though I haven't looked
at it closely. This required the :"JDK release: 1.4.1_03 minimum" too. but hey! no
problem since all are easily available. This worked for me like a charm and ASP nows
works on XP Home like it does on IIS or PWS!! Regards Satish Kumar
