I have a question about How
do get the taskbar and desktop back if Explorer crashes:
I was trying (I should emphasize "trying") to fix a friend's computer which had been
neglected for months. I found and removed two viruses (StartPage-DU (I think) and
another virus, I can not remember) using mcafee virusscan, stinger, adaware and spybot.
Only now, when XP starts normally, as soon as XP loads (icons and all) everything
disappears -- taskbar, icons, etc. I try ctrl-alt-del and look at the processes list,
and either one of two things happens -- I see explorer.exe appearing and disappearing
repeatedly, or I can not even look at the ctrl-alt-del screen -- as soon as I press
ctrl-alt-del, that screen itself flashes and disappears. I can start XP in safe mode,
and I can't find any viruses. Also when the computer starts up now, it seems to
go directly into the BIOS setup page automatically before booting, more and more
often to the point where I have to reboot several times until I can start XP. Any
help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance
Matt
