It's a "paper-scissors-rock" problem - depending on what settings are made (and where!)
they can trump each other like the game.
For anyone not interested in going into the registry here's a work-around to let
your icon folders and Windows Explorer detail views coexist -
For shortcut accessed folders on the desktop: Make sure that remember each folder's
settings IS on, and leave the shortcut alone - use Windows Explorer to navigate to
the actual folder, once you can see the contents of the folder in Explorer, set the
view there.
For actual folders on the desktop: move them off the desktop (I put them in a My
Docs subfolder for Sh*ts & Gr*ns but it shouldn't matter where..) then put shortcuts
to them back on the desktop. Follow the first procedure to set their views.
This has got to be an SP1 issue because that's when this started for me - I think
I'll wait before trying SP2.
