I also have an IBM T40 and had the same problem, but there is the Spectrum 24 Event
Service - Just see in Control Panel - Adminstrative Tools - Services - Spectrum24Event.
I setted this Service to Automatic and the Error-Message was gone. But I have the
Problem that XP does´nt shot down at all and I don´t know why.
