Question about 'Change the icon for Internet Shortcuts'

It appears to me that this change also removes the ability in IE for displaying custom 
icons for websites. That is, when you add some sites to your Favorites, they come 
with a customized icon in the Favorites list. Can anyone confirm this, and indicate 
whether there is a fix?

I recall that deleting your history and cache also affects these customized icons, 
in terms of removing them or adding new ones. But it doesn't seem to have an effect 
after making these registry changes.
