I have the same problem with multiple accounts. Spcifically, the main user (w/admin priveledge) is the only account to revert to 8-bit color. I thought it was a unique problem one until I read this thread. I have tried various things and still do not have a solution. For what its worth, this is probably a known but unpublicized bug at Microsoft.
