i'm a genius. okay no. i'm an idiot.
i threw away my old card thinking it was my hardware.
it was only 30bucks, but still. that sucks.
but here's my solution in case it helps anyone.
in my case, for some reason the swenum.sys was missing. i could not find it in my
WinXP cd or my win2k cd. I did find it in my 98SE CD. it was inside win98/BASE5.cab
(i opened it with winrar).
i did the procedures mentioned here, creating the temp directory and installing with
Have Disk, and it worked.
if you can't find those files i found some sites that were selling them (http://www.windll.com/sys-0800-0899.php),
for about 10 euros.
good luck, and thanks everyone for your help.
