I have a question about Stop Windows from Detecting Devices:

I bought a laptop with Windows XP and was using a thumb drive to save some files. My computer totally locked up and I had to restart it - I figured that since it was restarting, it wouldn't detect the device so I pulled it out before Windows started. But now Windows XP always says that USB storage device is connected. I can still use the USB port for other things and they basically work, but it still says that the "USB Storage Device" is "ok" to be detached. I don't have access to the device anymore so I can't plug it in and "remove the hardware." Any tips on how I can get the remnants of that device out of my system would be awesome! Thank you for your help.
