I have read all the prior posts, and have tried everything, virus removal, re-installing NIC, moving NIC to new slot, the last resort but should have been my first, change the cable. No connection drops now! I think the old cable was not bad, just not "clicking" in when inserted in NIC. I only got the "network cable unplugged" msg when doing bandwidth speed tests or downloading. I think the old connection was not just "good enough".
