So this thread has been going for 2 years??
I had the task manager / msconfig/ regedit not working problem and did a lot of internet
research on the problem and only just now (after 2 days) fixed it. The final step
that worked for me (as recommended above) was going to the system32 folder and deleting
recently created files. I deleted about 10 files, held my breath hoping I had not
deleted something critical, and rebooted.... seems to be ok and task mgr finally
starts normally. I ALSO DISCOVERED A KEYSTROKE LOG IN THERE!! every keystroke recorded!
very disturbing....
Steps I took -
renamed task mgr and msconfig files. This allowed me to run the programs but obviously
didn't solve the real problem.
Ran Adaware and spybot search and destroy
In safe mode, tried several antivirus scans. Panda turned up 5 viruses (trojans).
subby.b qhost.m
trojanvundo (norton turned this one up, used symantec's trojanvundo removal tool)
I tried to document everything I did, but now 2 days later I seem to have a pile
of scribbled notes.
So, I SEEM to have solved my problem, finally by manually deleting files in the system32
folder, but I am still concerned about that log file. Thanks for the help. MJ
