first, thanks to annoyances.org for the fantastic resource. secondly i really tried
look for exsisting fixes even elsewhere, but doing a search to narrow it down to
my specific issue has been a bit hard when trying to find a way to search with alternate
terms that dont bring up thousands of similar but not related issues in the results.
I reallya ppreciate any and all reonses and help. Thank you for even trying!
So, After a brand new install of Windows XP Pro, NTFS, I Updated to SP2, and ONLY
since SP2, and a very limited number of other upgrdes/updates the system hangs at
the "Windows is shutting down" screen. I can move the mouse for a couple of seconds
but then it just completely locks up Ctrl-Alt-Del also ineffective. The effect appears
to be annoying at best but what i dont know CAN hurt me. it's terribly frustrating.
i've tried changing the power management features on my usb roots as per a Windows
Ticket but no effect, the same with just removing all my usb hardware a Zip250 and
a lexar CompactFlash Reader.... no effect. could it be Bit Defender Pro, ATI Catalyst
drivers, USB 2.0 period?
my system consists of:
MSI K7N2 Delta2-LSR
Dual Channel Kit Pqi Turbo PC3200 Memory 2 sticks of 256mb
AMD Athlon Xp-M 2500+ Barton
Sapphire ATI 9600XT 128mb AGP
PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard
WD and Maxtor harddrives 40 gig each
Not using RAID
as a side note:
should i set my agp aperature to the max memory size i have on the card?
will adding a proper winxp driver or third party bios that will recognize my mobile
XP Chip correctly help in anyway? i have heard it will enable the PowerNow functions
of the chip? fact or fiction?
thanks in advance,
urville
