I have the exact same problem and it started on the installation of XP-SP2 back in Sept-04. I have run a multitude of tests on third party software thinking that perhaps one of them was causing the problem and have made sure that the drivers on my system are the latest vendor supplied drivers (where applicable). Nothing has solved this problem for me as yet. It does appear to be somehow related to how long between reboots. In other words, it does not occur if a reboot occurs within say an hour of the previous reboot. If the system runs 36-48 hours, the problem occurs. Sometimes the lockup will release itself in 30 seconds or so; other times I have use the power switch to shutdown. I have submitted a problem report to MS. Hopefully this will lead to a solution.
