Thanks to everyone who sent replies to help.
We have an MSI K7N420 Pro nVidia nForce motherboard, and I was using the on-board
sound card. After an nVidia driver update (maybe 3 years ago), I lost the sound and
could never get it back. I tried everything I could think of, searched it online
etc etc. I even installed a separate sound card, thinking that maybe the on-board
sound card died.
Since I could get the sound back, upon installing Windows into another partition,
I understood that this was a Windows problem. Even after then, I could not find the
solution. Since we don't really need sound, I decided to live with it; but the problem
was still bugging the neurons deep in my brain :P
I was looking online, every now and then, to find a solution. And yesterday, I found
this thread here, which made my day! After living with this problem for maybe more
than 3 years, and trying to solve it, I finally did it with your help.
Thank you, this was your new-year present for me :)
Take care...
