You may not have two installations of XP Home, but rather a fouled up Boot.ini file
. To find out, open the System Configuration Utility [Start/Run/type "msconfig" (less
quotes) and click "OK"], then click the Boot.ini Tab/then click "Check all boot paths".
If one is not valid, remove it
