"patch uxtheme.dll method" from http://www.belchfire.net/article205.html did NOT exactly work (and no, the "multipatcher" didnt work either for my version of xp). so i went with the "replacing with a PRE-patched" method, as described in the same page towards the end of the article. and this HAD to be done in safemode, REGARDLESS if wfp is enabled or not. trust me. iii. went with Mike's method; http://users.rowan.edu/~marz7821/images/Change%20the%20color%20of%20your%20start%20button.txt for the nittygritties, "step2" onwards... iv. when selecting one of the two "windows xp" in desktop/properties/themes, there shouldnt be anything weird in the 'sample' window ie/ i got some blanked out black stuff in the preview. this means that windows has realised you've got an unsigned (tempered) system file in there and selecting+applying that will only result in the activation of "windows classic" start button. if this happens, i think you STILL havent got any of the steps above right. repeat. thanks to everyone who've helped! woopeedooo Written in response to: How to change start button color in XP??
