If you're trying to run a really old DOS game under XP, there is a simple solution: dosbox.sourceforge.net

This is an open source project that is distributed free of charge, and has no spyware. It runs DOS in an emulated window, and has nice features for emulating hardware such as old displays, soundcards, mouse drivers, etc. You can download it by following the above link, clicking the Download menu, and then clicking the Windows install. See the website for more info.

This tool is great for running games like the early Ultimas, Goblins, Out of this World, etc.
