Just open WORD > open INSERT > click on SYMBOLS > Choose CURRENCY SYMBOLS > click
on the POUND Sign > below click on Shortcut key > a window opens where you can assign
(create)your own shortcutkey.
Hope this is what you are asking for!!!
I had the similar problems, because I am German using the Euro sign very often and
my keyboard is american too.
