My first xp cd was upgrade disk, and I know. Just insert it, bios will not detect
and os will load. If its a formatted hdd, a blank screen will result. i HAD TO INSTALL
95 OR 98 TO RUN THE CD. Once the cd is run, u have two options, either to upgrade
or to do a clean install. remeber, this is from a windows environment, any windows
will run cd. If the running OS is not suitable for upgrading, then only clean install
is the choice. Once u select clean install, the cd will format the EXISTING WINDOWS
(it can be 2000 or even longhorn, it doesn't matter) and install xp. U r again misunderstanding
"running the cd" with "installing xp".
All upgrade only xp cd's have two choices, upgrade and clean install, but it will
not boot from a formatted hdd to do a clean install. (And that's the reason why M$
charges it less assuming u paid for another M$ OS.)
