If your error message refers to kernel32.exe, then your computer is infected 
with one of the following viruses:
Worm_Badtrans.b 
• Backdoor.G_Door 
• Glacier Backdoor 
• Win32.Badtrans.29020 
• W32.Badtrans.B@mm 
• Win32/PWS.Badtrans.B.Worm 

If your error message refers to kernel32.dll, then you might be able to fix 
it without the hassle of a restore if one of these is true:

1.  You have a Canon CanoScan 600 scanner,
2.  If the error occurs when you are trying to view thumbnail images in Windows Explorer
