I have been having similar issues, helas excuse me if i missed something but I poorly (in a ADD fashion) lost track of reading the whole thread. but more to the point. I have a generic P4 1.8 GHz PC and two items has made my PC drop off the face of the earth, one I installed Office 2k3 and two I visited the XP website and failed the validation test on it. Since then, (Not good)! PC worked fine during the day, but the next day I turned on my pc to be greeted by a Blue screen. Started doing process of elimination from there and getting more and more aggresive in tactics to resolve including installing Win 2k Pro, resetting Bios, pulling out every component (while I was there I cleaned them from dust ;p) to low leveling my hard drive. Each installation would work fine, until the next day!, Even a plain installation with no added apps got the blue screen the next day, could prolong for a few days by (reseting BIOS or last known good config) I decided to only install Linux SUSE, and you guessed it she worked fine. (having come across similar posts else where with different hardware setups and troubleshootng tactics) As much as I like Linux, I am still liking to Windows for the little things you get used to and would like to get it back online for more than a day at a time. (Ghost images crashed from time to time) Love to hear from you for ideas or suggestions!
