Question about 'Use Dial-Up Networking over a LAN'

I seem to be missing something. I have a simple home network via a crossover cable.
My wife's computer is set-up as the gateway. Getting access and sharing each other's
hard disk files works just fine.

I have set her connection to share and to let others control connections. The problem
is when my computer is turned on, the connection is activated ... even though we
did not want it at that moment. I have gone into the documents and settings directories
and have checked under each Start-up/Programs/Start-up to make sure IExplorer shortcut
is not there.

What am I overlooking?

Thanks
