UPDATE TO ABOVE.........

Just to add, with my dial-up and computer system, I am connecting to the internet, 
via the gateway computer, through something called a 'Bridge' in Connections.  

Seems I have something called a '1394 Net Adapter 'thingie' ... and one called 'VIA 
Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter' thingie.
