Windows XP Explorer Crashing / Desktop 10 sec fresh icons vanish and reappear

I get this too ... My desktop icons will disappear and the computer will loc for about 10 seconds while they reappear. Basically think explorer is crashing. Dont want to waste hours testing out what is is. Lets keep this list growing. Eventually is will lead to something
