I had the same 0xcoooooo8 lsass.exe related error.
i fixed it the following way.
1 - put the HD in another pc
2 - look in c:\windows\system32\config , and rename the file called "SAM" to "SAM_ORG"
!! this file has NO extention
3 - look in c:\windows\repair , and copy the file called
"sam" to c:\windows\system32\config and rename it to "SAM" (capitols!)
4 put the drive back in the origional pc
5 boot. (you will see an very old, probably the lastone before updating to servicepack1,
desktop confuguration)
6 DONT DO ANYTHING like trying programs or browsing or anything
7 go to system restore start>programs>desktop accesoiries (might be called different
i have a dutch version) > system utilities>system restore
8 restore your system to the nearest point in time that can be restored BEFORE the
error.
9 let system restore do its work and your pc is back to normal.
10 delete the file called "SAM_ORG" in c:\windows\system32\config (system restore
put the right file back for you which was in the UNACCESIBLE "system volume information"
folder which contains the filles backed-up during the making of a restore point)
11 smile =)
