CD Drive won't recognize burnt CD's

My CD drive won't recognize certain CD's. It seems that they are mainly CD's that have been burnt, but sometimes the drive doesn't read professionally-made CD's either. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? It seems that the computer doesn't even know a CD is in the drive, because when I open the drive folder in My Computer it tells me to insert a CD. Thanks in advance.
