Hmm, could you borrow a friend's computer?
If so, you might want to try temporarily swapping
CD drives. If your drive works OK in the other PC,
and the other drive also doesn't work in your PC,
that would suggest the problem -- whether H/W or
S/W -- is specific to your PC. On the other hand,
if your drive also fails to work in the other PC, and
the other drive works OK in your PC, that would
suggest a H/W problem with your drive.
If it's a H/W problem with your drive, then you could
simply get a new drive. How old is the drive in
question? I have known CD drives to fail after
two or three years of use.
