For those of you who could not get your desktop icons trasnparent after all trying all the available methods, this is for you. First of all disable drop shadows in system properties, advanced, performace settings. Then disable Active Desktop. For some reason I was unable to disable AD from the windows context menus so I used this fix: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/activedesktop.vbs (Good site by the way) Then I got Iconoid (Free icon and tweaking tool): http://www.sillysot.com/iconoid.zip Once you have iconoid open go to the first tab, and if you disabled the things I listed, you should be able to select transparent and then apply it and boom your icon background should be gone.
