Problems all started when I took a brand new laptop on a vacation around the USA, staying at Hotels with free wireless connections, my laptop worked perfectly fine at home when virgin out of the box, but soon after logging on a few times around the country I started to notice hangs on shutdown, then in the end it would not shutdown unless I did a "rip out the battery" operation (not even holding down the on/off button for 15 seconds had any effect) Then....I read how corrupted sound files can stop proper shutdowns, so I went in, always feel like a Navy Seal going into the guts, He Who Dares Wines.eh??!!, and changed the Exit Windows sound to a different uncorrupted sound file I downloaded off of a Star Trek sound site, and Lo! and also Behold! It worked..no more problems, shuts down sweet as a nut!
