It sounds as if you connect to other computers to use shared devices, but you don't
share any devices yourself. If this is the case, try going to Control Panel->Network
Connections->Your connection's Properties. Select "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft
Networks" and press Uninstall. This will prevent you from sharing local files and
printers, but as long as you leave "Client for Microsoft Networks" in place, you
can still use resources others have shared. Does this improve your boot time?
