Is it possible that the WEP or WPA security that you had set up on the router's wireless 
transmissions has been somehow "forgotten" or "reset" on either the router itself 
(more likely) or the individual laptops (less likely)?

Something like this could have happened if the router's reset button was accidentally 
pushed in the mad rush to pack things up.
