Dear all Thanks so much for the help and input. I am convinced my niece's system is now squeaky clean...however, on startup there is still no start bar and no desktop icons. What else can I do?? And why do people do these things? This has cost me three days of my life and my niece has lost all faith in me because 'her friends dad fixed the problem in an hour...' Or is that a stupid question?!
