Lauren B -- it is possible that your screen resolution is set in such a way that the icons are there . . . they are just hidden off to one side beyond the border of your monitor. Try increasing your resolution significantly, say, from 640 x 960 to 1152 x 864. If you can now see icons, but they are really tiny, then that was the dilemma keeping you from seeing them with a lower resolution. Wish you well, Sojourner.
