Also, to expand on the "matching" aspect - many PC's are quite tolerant of mismatched
RAM, whereas most laptops are far less easygoing. Mismatched RAM in a laptop can
cause Blue Screen Of Death, spontaneous reboots, and hanging (in extreme cases, a
refusal even to boot). It might happen as seldom as once or twice a month - often
enough so you know something is seriously wrong, and seldom enough to be virtually
untraceable by normal workshop procedures.
If you are running a laptop, I would strongly advise either purchasing a new 512MB
stick and keeping your old one for a spare, or if you buy a second stick, match the
manufacturer and model as precisely as you can.
