XP...I started with a new HP (2005) with the standard packaging that comes with the
machine. The problems started as I tried to add the software that was only 3 month
trials. MS office, Norton etc, Spyware protection etc. As soon as I upgraded Nortons
it would no longer time out to a shut down mode. As soon as the standby mode was
reached you can never wake up the machine without a Hard-reboot. I store bought the
software becuase I like to own a disk and perhaps that is where the problem lies.
Even though I upgreaded several of these programs like Spyware protect I get a reminder
that I can buy it at a discount. (Unfortunatly I bought it at full price from HP
while trying to resolve some of these problems)
How do you get rid of the adds that are supposed to be removed by the programs that
you just bought and installed of the same software that is already on your machine
that is supposed to protect you from pop ups. (Im laughing here)
After upgrading the Nortons trial pkg. the system, standby mode locks up. I had a
Belkin KVM switch before (that I gave up on) that I was using for shareing which
also does not work well with the XP operating system. It would periodically loose
the mouse and or the keyboard with the HP, Intel P4 XP machine yet have no problems
with the generic P2 CPU Win98 operating system connected threw the same Belkin switch
for monitor, mouse, keyboard sharing. You just have to laugh...I was disscussing
it with one of my friends from COX communications and they have had all kinds of
lockup problems also with the XP systems they installed at work. Many of them, I
hear, are just going back to Win 2000. Im tired of spending dow on a money PIT,
and my wife gets tired of me spending all my time on a PC. Ill just work with it
I guess and realize that XP is only a Beta for Microsofts next and upcomming new
thing better and more powerful.....(Im still laughing).
