Yes both machines are running XP. 

Is there a reason to change the port number from 3389?  Thats the default.  So all 
i really need to do is set the router to accept connections to that port number...? 
 and when i connect from a buddy's house just add the port number after the IP address. 
 and pray.

I still dont see why i can use remote desktop from one computer to the other and 
not the other way around?
