This is how I fixed Nvida NForce3 mup.sys problem:
0. Copy from Nvida driver CD, IDE/Raid drivers to a floppy so they can be used
later during setup.
1. Boot with WinXP setup CD
2. Press F6 at the beginning when you are asked about installing Raid drivers
3. When prompted insert floppy with IDE/Raid drivers, select all the drivers you
have option to load (I had 2 of them so I did it twice)
4. Continue running setup, you will need to enter CD key etc., you will be prompted
again in few minutes to insert floppy again and repeat IDE/Raid install when if asked.
5. When the whole new XP setup ends you should be able to boot normally and see all
your old desktop and software settings, but since this was a reinstall of originall
CD now you should go thru complete update of windows by running windows update from
Microsoft website.
It took me several weekends to resove this "mup.sys" problem and I hope it will help
you as well. Remeber before you start this process to have a complete backup of
your hard disk so you can restore it if something goes wrong. I recommend buying
a second hard disk and ghosting to it your original one just in case.
