The Asus A8V-Dlx has two onboard SATA controllers, a VIA controller that's part of
the KT800 chipset and a separate Promise 20378 RAID controller.

My money says you are using a SATA driver, but the wrong one.

My advice would be to navigate to the Asus downloads page for the A8V-Dlx and download
the most recent non-beta drivers for the chipset you have connected your HDD to,
be it the Promise or the VIA.
