XP OPERATING SYSTEM

What is the make and model of the laptop? When you "redid" it, did you simply install Windows a second time?

On your boot screen do you have a choice of operating system? Can you post your boot.ini file here please. When you go to disk management can you see any unallocated space? Do you have an XP CD or do you have the manufacturers Recovery CD? If an XP CD is it a full version or is it an upgrade version, and does it have Service Pack Two? Click the link at the top, download and install Everest and find the hard-drive specifications. Did you use fdisk when "re-doing" the installation, or did you use the XP CD to partition and format? FYI 10 GB Decimal = 9.313 BG Binary size. You always 'lose' a bit after formatting.
