Could you describe the problems you're having, in more detail? Corrupt file warnings
in the tray, sounds strange. Is there an icon in the tray, that you don't recognize?
Do you scan for virus and spyware regularly?

Try running System File Checker and see if that gets anywhere. First, exit some items
in the tray area. Start/Run then type SFC /SCANNOW then hit Enter. Windows
will check for missing or corrupt system files. You may be asked to insert your XP
CD. Let us know how it goes.
